The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party intensified on Tuesday as the factional National Executive Committee loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, confirmed the expulsion of Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State.
The committee also ratified the expulsion of former Chairman of the Board of Trustees Senator Adolphus Wabara, former National Vice Chairman Bode George and the recently elected National Chairman of the party Kabiru Turaki SAN.
This action follows the disputed national convention of the party held in Ibadan on Saturday, where Wike and his supporters were removed from the party. That event set the stage for the tense confrontation seen at the People’s Democratic Party national secretariat in Wadata Plaza Abuja today, as the two rival factions arrived for separate NEC and Board of Trustees meetings.
During its meeting at the secretariat, the factional NEC dissolved the state executive councils in Oyo, Bauchi, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos and Ekiti States. It also directed the formation of caretaker committees and the organisation of fresh congresses in those states.
A communique issued after the meeting and read by the National Secretary Senator Sam Anyanwu stated that the committee reviewed the report of the Acting National Chairman Hon Abdulrahman Mohammed. The report outlined alleged breaches of Articles fifty eight one and fifty nine one of the party constitution, including anti party activities, refusal to comply with court orders and actions said to have brought the party into disrepute.
The communique listed those for whom disciplinary measures had been approved. They include Adolphus Wabara, Olabode George, Ben N Obi, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki SAN, Bala Mohammed, Oluseyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, Taofiq Arapaja, Setonji Koshoedo, Okechukwu Obiechina Daniel, Woyengikuro Daniel, Mohammed Kadade Suleiman, Emmanuel Ogidi, Sumaila Adamu Burga, Umar Sani, Udom Emmanuel and Emmanuel Enorden.
