The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on residents of Abuja to embrace peace, compassion, and unity as Muslims across the world celebrate Eid-el-Maulud, the commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

In a goodwill message to residents on Friday, Wike extended warm greetings on behalf of the FCT Administration, describing the occasion as a reminder of the Prophet’s teachings on love, kindness, and acceptance.

“Eid-el-Maulud is not just a celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, it is an opportunity for us to come together as residents of the FCT to uphold our commitment to values of acceptance, love and kindness that the Prophet preached,” Wike said. “It is a time to remember the importance of compassion and the virtues of togetherness that should guide our interactions with one another, irrespective of our beliefs.”

The minister praised residents for their cooperation in fostering peace and harmony in Abuja, noting that this had enabled the FCTA to record progress in governance and service delivery. He also commended law enforcement agencies, healthcare workers, and essential service providers for keeping the city safe and functional.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, Wike pledged that the FCTA would continue to prioritise infrastructure, security, healthcare, and emergency services to improve residents’ quality of life. He, however, urged residents to also contribute by fulfilling their civic duties.

“As we celebrate this day, I urge you all to extend a hand of friendship, reach out to your neighbors regardless of their background or beliefs, and foster a sense of community,” he said. “Participate in programmes that promote social cohesion, economic growth, and environmental sustainability. Contribute to the growth and progress of our beloved FCT by obeying traffic rules, paying your taxes, and engaging in civic activities.”

The minister further implored residents to pray for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending the President’s support for the FCT Administration and his broader efforts towards national development.

He concluded by calling for prayers for peace, prosperity, and progress in Abuja and Nigeria at large.

Eid-el-Maulud, observed annually by Muslims, is marked in Nigeria with prayers, lectures, and community service. Over the years, political leaders have often used the occasion to call for unity and peaceful coexistence in a country of diverse ethnic and religious groups.

This year’s celebration comes at a time when the FCT Administration is pushing ahead with infrastructure projects and reforms to address rising population pressure, security challenges, and the demand for improved public services.
