Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah.
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, is set to formally defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Enugu, the state capital.
Mbah is expected to join the ruling party alongside several key political figures, including members of the National and State Assemblies, state executive appointees, and local government party leaders across the state.
The APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Deputy National Chairman (South), Hon. Emma Eneukwu, had earlier hinted at the governor’s planned defection while inaugurating a seven-man caretaker committee for the party in Enugu. They described the move as part of the APC’s broader strategy to consolidate its presence and influence in the South-East region.
Confirming the development to journalists at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, the newly inaugurated Enugu State APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, said preparations have been concluded for the official reception of the governor and his allies.
“Governor Mbah and his appointees will be formally received into our great party on October 14,” Nwoye stated.
The APC National Working Committee (NWC) had on Thursday dissolved the Enugu State Working Committee (SWC) and appointed the caretaker committee to oversee the party’s affairs in the state ahead of the defection.
