The Lagos State Government has commenced monitoring schools across the state for compliance with academic standards as students resumed for the new session this week.
In a statement on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), Adepeju Adeyemi, said the inspection exercise began on Monday and covers all schools below the tertiary level.
The Coordinating Director of OEQA, Remi Abdul, led the monitoring team to several schools, including Dolphin Senior High School, Lagos Island, where the team was received by the Principal/Director, Comfort Agunlejika.
Abdul explained that the inspection was to ensure adherence to the approved resumption date stated in the 2025/2026 Harmonised Academic Calendar. Basic and secondary schools in Lagos resumed on 15 September 2025 for the first term of the session.
According to the approved calendar, the first half of the term runs from 15 September to 31 October 2025 (34 days), while the second half will run from 10 November to 19 December 2025 (34 days), with an Open Day and Mid-Term Break in between.
Abdul noted that inspectors were also checking whether school administrators held pre-resumption meetings and whether key teaching and statutory records—such as lesson notes, diaries and attendance registers—were in place for the smooth take-off of the new academic session.
While addressing SSS 3 students, Abdul urged them to take their studies seriously, stressing that their performance this term would influence their transition to higher education. He advised them to read diligently, stay focused, avoid skipping classes and begin early preparation for the WASSCE examinations.
He also encouraged teachers to remain dedicated and committed to delivering quality education.
