Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has paid a condolence visit to victims and survivors of the recent attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, where dozens were reportedly killed and displaced. The visit, which took place on Sunday, was aimed at expressing solidarity with the affected communities and Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

In a statement released via his official X handle, Obi condemned the violence as “senseless killings” and described it as unacceptable in a country not at war. He noted that no Nigerian should have to live in fear and stressed the need for urgent national attention to protect lives.

While in Bokkos, Obi met with displaced persons, children, and families who lost loved ones, offering words of comfort and solidarity. He announced a donation of ₦7.5 million to support relief efforts, focusing on the needs of displaced children, education continuity, and other community rebuilding efforts.

The former Anambra State governor also acknowledged ongoing efforts by his supporters, popularly known as the Obidient Movement, who had earlier constructed a borehole for the IDP camp to ensure access to clean water. He said the new donation builds on this humanitarian initiative.

“My heart is with the people of Bokkos,” Obi said, adding that leadership and compassion are crucial during times of national grief. He pledged continued support for peace, justice, and rebuilding efforts across Plateau State.

Obi’s visit has drawn commendation from supporters and citizens who view his gesture as a symbol of responsive leadership and empathy. He concluded by praying for the souls of the departed and strength for the survivors to rebuild their lives.
