2027 COALITION: ATIKU, SECONDUS, OTHER PDP LEADERS HOLD STRATEGIC MEETING IN ABUJA

Written by on July 1, 2025

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, and ex-Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido are among several top members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) currently holding a high-level, closed-door meeting in Abuja.

The meeting is taking place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel as part of ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections. The discussions center on forming a coalition strong enough to challenge President Bola Tinubu.

Also present at the meeting are former PDP National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus and former Governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), and Sam Egwu (Ebonyi).

Reliable sources at the venue confirmed that David Mark is presiding over the meeting, where leaders are deliberating on whether to merge fully into a proposed coalition party or remain in the PDP and enter an electoral alliance.

Sunday PUNCH had earlier reported that the coalition has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform, with Senator David Mark chosen as interim chairman. The official unveiling is expected on Wednesday.

Other party figures attending the meeting include Senator Ben Obi; former National Women Leader Josephine Anenih; former National Organising Secretary Senator Austin Akobundu; ex-National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan; and former National Youth Leader Abdullahi Maibasira.

The gathering is considered critical to the opposition’s strategy for 2027 and signals a major shift in political alignments ahead of the next general election.
