The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum has firmly declared that the party will not consider any coalition or merger with other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. This resolution was reached during the Forum’s 24th meeting for the 2025 political year, held on Monday at the Oyo State Governor’s Office, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan.

Speaking on behalf of the Forum, its Chairman and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, emphasised the party’s commitment to maintaining its independence and rebuilding its internal structures without external alliances. He asserted that the PDP remains a strong, independent platform capable of reclaiming power through its own efforts.

In addition to its stance on the 2027 elections, the Forum announced plans to seek a clear interpretation from the Supreme Court on constitutional provisions relating to the declaration of a state of emergency. According to the governors, this move aims to prevent potential abuses of power and protect Nigeria’s constitutional democracy.

Further decisions reached at the meeting include plans to collaborate with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and other party organs to convene a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on May 27, 2025. The governors also resolved to establish a zoning committee that will guide the allocation of party offices, ensuring balance and equity within the party.

As part of preparations for 2027, the PDP will also hold an early national convention scheduled to take place from August 28 to 30, 2025, in Kano. This convention is expected to set the tone for the party’s strategic direction, leadership structure, and electoral game plan.

With these resolutions, the PDP Governors Forum has reiterated its focus on internal consolidation and electoral readiness, signalling a clear path forward in its bid to regain national prominence.
