Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has publicly apologised for his recent controversial remarks on men and monogamy, which triggered backlash across social media and among fans.
The veteran singer had stirred outrage after stating on a podcast hosted by comedian Nedu that men are not “built” to remain sexually faithful to one woman. While clarifying that he was speaking from personal experience, the singer had said:
“A man is not built to sexually be with one woman. A man can give his heart and love to one woman, but it’s impossible for a man to sexually be with one woman.”
The comment was widely condemned as misogynistic and irresponsible, especially given 2Baba’s status as a role model and father.
In a heartfelt statement issued on social media, 2Baba retracted his comments, expressing deep remorse and acknowledging the pain his words may have caused.
“I know I messed up with what I said, and I know I’m going to get cancelled because of it. I apologise to my fans and, most importantly, to my wife, the love of my life, Natasha, and my kids. They don’t deserve what I put them through,” he wrote.
He described his wife as “amazing and smart” and admitted that his comments did not reflect his values or character.
“That’s not who I am,” he added. “I’m fortunate to have people who look up to me, who call me a legend. I own up to my mistake. I’m terribly sorry.”
