The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, on Monday arraigned an accountant, Oguibe Promise Nkwachukwu, alongside his company, Wifamapp Royalty Global Limited, before Justice R.A. Oshodi of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja over an alleged theft of N200 million belonging to Travelstar Web Logistics Limited.
Nkwachukwu, who served as the company’s accountant, is facing a 13-count charge bordering on stealing, contrary to Sections 280(1)(b), (2)(f), and 287 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
According to the EFCC, the defendant, acting through his company, Wifamapp Royalty Global Limited, allegedly misappropriated $36,000 entrusted to him by his employer for personal use. He is also accused of dishonestly diverting another $156,000 from the company’s funds.
When the charges were read in court, Nkwachukwu pleaded not guilty to all counts.
Prosecution counsel, A.A. Usman, requested the court to fix a date for trial and sought an order to remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending the commencement of proceedings.
In response, defence counsel, Kelvin C. Uzozie, informed the court of a pending bail application and appealed for his client to remain in EFCC custody instead of being sent to a correctional centre. After hearing both sides, Justice Oshodi adjourned the matter to October 17, 2025, for the hearing of the bail application. The judge also ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos.
