Controversial activist and social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has broken his silence following his release from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
VDM was arrested on May 2 at a bank in Abuja and released five days later on May 7. His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the development. The activist dismissed allegations of suspected money laundering, stating that he does not possess the kind of wealth that would warrant such claims. He attributed his charitable activities to debt rather than financial excess.
His detention sparked nationwide outrage, with fans and celebrities—including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Davido—calling for his release. Protests erupted at EFCC offices, with demonstrators condemning the arrest as unjust.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale explained that VDM was detained following multiple allegations from petitioners and assured that he would be freed upon meeting bail conditions, with plans to take the case to court.
