The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed July 24, 2025, for a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to formally nominate a new national chairman, following the resignation of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje last Friday.

In the meantime, the Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, has been appointed Acting National Chairman and officially took charge on Monday.

The announcement was made on Monday by the APC Deputy National Secretary, Barrister Festus Fuanter, shortly after an emergency NWC meeting held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Fuanter confirmed that a formal notice of the NEC meeting has already been sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in line with the party’s constitutional procedures and electoral guidelines.

“The NWC has resolved to convene an NEC meeting on Wednesday, July 24, to deliberate on key issues, including the nomination and ratification of a new national chairman,” he stated.

The upcoming NEC meeting is expected to be chaired by President Bola Tinubu and attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, party leaders from across the federation, current and former governors, National Assembly members, and other top stakeholders.

Ganduje’s resignation amid internal party tensions created a vacuum at the top of the party’s leadership structure, which the NEC meeting aims to resolve. The party says it remains focused on maintaining unity and stability ahead of major political activities.
