ASUU ELECTS CHRIS PIWUNA AS NEW NATIONAL PRESIDENT

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has elected Professor Chris Piwuna as its new National President, succeeding Professor Emmanuel Osodeke of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State.
Prof. Piwuna, a consultant psychiatrist and former dean of student affairs at the University of Jos, was the union’s immediate past national vice president. He emerged winner during the union’s 23rd National Delegates Congress held at the University of Benin, Edo State.
He defeated Professor Adamu Babayo of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, in a closely contested election.
An official communiqué is expected to be released by the union at the conclusion of the congress on Monday, outlining its new leadership structure and policy direction.
