ASUU: GOVERNMENT SAYS ALL DEMANDS HAVE BEEN MET, NO BASIS FOR STRIKE

The Federal Government has insisted that it has fulfilled all the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), urging the union to call off its ongoing strike.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, made this known while speaking on live television this morning.
Alausa explained that the government had held several engagements with ASUU since his assumption of office, maintaining that there was no justification for the industrial action.
“We have addressed every single request by ASUU; there is no need for this strike, and we are pleading with them to return to the classrooms,” he said.
Recall that ASUU, on Sunday, announced a two-week total and comprehensive warning strike across all public universities in Nigeria, citing the Federal Government’s alleged failure to honour previous agreements.
The union’s National President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, stated this during a press briefing held at the University of Abuja, noting that the strike would commence from midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025.
“Compatriots of the press, it goes without saying that there is nothing sufficient on the ground to halt the implementation of the ASUU-NEC’s resolution to embark on a two-week warning strike at the expiry of the 14-day notice given on September 28, 2025,” Piwuna said.
However, Alausa dismissed claims that the government had been slow or unwilling to respond to ASUU’s demands, insisting that all issues raised by the union had been addressed.
