BARAU DONATES N22M TO FAMILIES OF LATE KANO ATHLETES

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, yesterday paid a condolence visit to the families of the 22 Kano athletes who lost their lives in a tragic motor accident over the weekend.
The visit, which took place at Gwagwarwa Juma’at Mosque in the Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, saw Senator Barau donate ₦1 million to each of the bereaved families, totaling ₦22 million.
In a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Barau described the accident as a national tragedy and prayed for Allah’s mercy on the souls of the deceased.
“We are here to register our condolences to you over this tragic and devastating incident that led to the loss of our brothers,” he said. “May Allah grant them Aljannatul Firdausi and give you the strength to bear the loss.”
Barau was accompanied by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Yusuf Atta; Managing Director of the North West Development Commission Prof. Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji; and other dignitaries including clerics and business leaders.
The Chief Imam of Gwagwarwa Juma’at Mosque, Sheikh Adda’u Aliyu, thanked the Deputy Senate President for his support, describing the gesture as timely and deeply appreciated by the community.
Special prayers were held during the visit for the repose of the souls of the late athletes.
