Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The event, held in Yenagoa, the state capital, attracted thousands of supporters from all eight local government areas. Many were dressed in white T-shirts as they gathered to celebrate the governor’s defection. Enthusiastic crowds also took to major streets of Yenagoa, singing and drumming in support of the move.
Diri, who recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has now ended weeks of speculation by formally joining the APC.
Several prominent political figures were present at the occasion, including Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno, Delta State Governor Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, former Delta Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Ondo State Governor Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, and the Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh.
