BREAKING: ALL ENUGU REPS DEFECT TO APC

All members of the Enugu State caucus in the House of Representatives have officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, announced the defection on Thursday after reading letters of resignation from the lawmakers who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP).
The event, witnessed by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, marked a major political shift in the state. The lawmakers cited unresolved internal crises within the opposition parties as the reason for their decision to leave.
Following the 2023 general elections, the Labour Party had secured seven of the eight House of Representatives seats in Enugu, while the PDP won one. With Thursday’s defection, the APC now controls the entire Enugu caucus in the House.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Nnolim Nnaji — who represents Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency — said the decision was motivated by a desire to align with Governor Mbah’s “project-oriented administration.”
“Just come to Enugu and see what is happening there. The governor is doing a lot for our people. We also want to bring our state to the centre,” Nnaji said.
He described the move as “a bold step into the future,” aimed at integrating Enugu into the mainstream of national politics.
“For too long, our dear Enugu State has remained in opposition, watching from the sidelines as others shaped the destiny of our nation. That era is over,” he declared.“By joining the APC — the party driving national transformation — we are connecting our constituencies to the heartbeat of national development. This decision was made after deep reflection and a shared resolve to reposition Enugu for greatness.”
The lawmakers who defected include Martins Oke, Anayo Onwuegbu, Nnamdi Agbo, Nnolim Nnaji, and Mark Obetta.
In a related development, the member representing Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency, Daniel Asama, also announced his defection from the Labour Party to the APC.
