The All-Progressives Congress (APC) has achieved a clean sweep in the Niger State Local Government Council elections, winning all 25 chairmanship positions across the state.
The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) officially confirmed the results, describing the elections as “credible, transparent, and reflective of the people’s will.” In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Operations, Mohammed Liman, NSIEC said all Returning Officers had completed collation and declaration of results in line with electoral laws and commission guidelines.
“After careful review, the Commission approved and ratified the results, confirming the duly elected chairmen and councillors who satisfied all legal requirements,” Liman said.
APC candidates triumphed in all 25 Local Government Areas, including Agaie, Bida, Kontagora, Lapai, Bosso, Chanchaga, and Wushishi. Newly elected chairmen include Sayuti Ibrahim Halilu (Agaie), Usman Mohammed (Bida), Mustapha Jibrin (Chanchaga), Lawal Yusuf (Kontagora), and Mohammed Lokogoma (Wushishi).
The results revealed substantial margins between APC and its closest rivals. For instance, in Bosso, APC polled 29,140 votes against PDP’s 6,039, while in Suleja APC scored 61,877 votes compared to SDP’s 1,146. Similar dominance was seen in Gbako, Lapai, Bida, Chanchaga, and across northern Niger State.
For councillorship seats, APC won 271 out of 274, with PDP securing just two, in Tafa and Rafi Local Government Areas.
Liman congratulated all elected officials, urging them to uphold transparency, accountability, and service to the people. He also commended security agencies, political parties, observers, the media, IPAC, ALGON, and voters for their contributions to the successful conduct of the elections. Certificates of Return will be presented to the elected officials on a date to be announced by NSIEC.
