Award-winning Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has joined the list of prominent Nigerians congratulating Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on his 60th birthday.

In a heartfelt video message shared online, Davido lauded Governor Sanwo-Olu’s efforts in transforming Lagos, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, transportation, and youth engagement. The music icon expressed admiration for the governor’s leadership style and ongoing commitment to improving the lives of Lagosians.

“Hello, my people, what’s up? It’s your boy Davido. I want to give a big 60th birthday shout-out to our governor, Governor Sanwo-Olu,” the singer said. “We appreciate you. Everything you do for Lagos, we see it every time. And you, I know I love you, man. Have fun, enjoy, and yeah, man, live your life. Sanwo-Olu, I bow to Your Excellency.”

Davido’s birthday message adds to the growing number of tributes from political leaders, celebrities, and citizens who have taken to various platforms to honour the governor’s milestone and leadership legacy.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who turned 60 on Wednesday, has been widely commended for projects such as the completion of the Blue and Red Line rail projects, the proposed Fourth Mainland Bridge, and investments in education, healthcare, and youth empowerment programmes. Many, including Davido, see him as a modern leader who engages with both governance and culture.

The artist, who enjoys a massive fanbase both locally and internationally, is known for his active involvement in social and political matters and has previously shown support for youth-driven policies and developmental efforts across Nigeria.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, a former banker and technocrat, began his political career under the mentorship of President Bola Tinubu and has since risen through the ranks, serving in various capacities before his election as governor in 2019 and re-election in 2023. His administration has placed emphasis on infrastructure renewal, urban mobility, and public-private partnerships to drive growth in Lagos, Africa’s most populous city.

Davido’s tribute underscores the increasing crossover between entertainment and politics, as Nigerian celebrities continue to use their platforms to recognise and influence governance and development.
