Veteran journalist and Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Dele Momodu, says only a broad coalition of opposition parties can successfully unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Momodu made the statement during an appearance on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State’s flagship programme, Guest of the Month, aired live from Ibadan.
The two-time presidential aspirant acknowledged deep cracks within his own party, the PDP, warning that internal divisions and sabotage threaten any chances of reclaiming power.
“If PDP is united, it has all it takes to wrest power from the APC in 2027, but unfortunately, forces within and outside the party are working against that unity,” he said.
Momodu accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of deliberately encouraging factionalism within the PDP to weaken the opposition ahead of the next polls.
“The APC is jittery. It sees PDP as the only party capable of challenging its dominance, and it is doing everything possible to destabilize it,” he added.
He stressed that the road to dislodging Tinubu would require more than a single-party effort.
“The only realistic chance of removing President Tinubu lies in a united coalition of opposition parties — anything less is wishful thinking,” Momodu warned.
In a candid moment, the media mogul admitted feeling estranged from the PDP, saying, “My soul has left the PDP, only my body remains.”
He also emphasized that regional balance would play a critical role in any credible challenge to President Tinubu in 2027.
“Whoever hopes to contest favourably must come from the opposite direction in terms of region. That’s how politics works in Nigeria,” he concluded.
