In a major political realignment, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made on Wednesday in Asaba by Senator James Manager following a six-hour closed-door meeting held at the Government House. “All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the speaker, the state party chairman, all local government chairmen, and others, have agreed to move to the APC. We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat,” the manager declared.

Confirming the decision, Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr Aniagwu Charles, said the move was necessitated by a desire to secure continued development and stability in the state. “We concluded that leaving the PDP was necessary to collaborate and build a state every Deltan will be proud of. The state of the PDP is akin to palm wine whose taste has changed—so we had to change the drinking party,” he said.

Charles also hinted at a formal declaration event expected to take place on Monday. The mass defection marks a dramatic shift in the political landscape of Delta State and could reshape the balance of power in the South-South region.
