EAGLE 102.5 FM AT THREE: THE FLIGHT TO EXCELLENCE

Written by on April 4, 2025

Three years ago, a small eaglet broke free from its shell—fragile but full of potential. In the wild, an eagle at this stage depends heavily on its nest for survival, learning the ways of the sky from its parents.

By the time it turns three, its wings are stronger, its vision sharper, and it begins to assert its dominance in the vast blue expanse.

Just like the majestic bird that inspires its name, Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese Ijebu, has grown from a fledgling voice in the media space into a station with an undeniable presence.

In the early hours of Sunday April 4TH, 2021 Eagle had its first broadcast; a feeling the Chairman, Asiwaju Kunle Kalejaye, SAN described as of “ecstasy”, and ever since it has continued to, Inform, Educate, Entertain and as the fourth estate of the realm; has also actively played the role of a watchdog for governmental policies especially within the local socio-political scenes.

A perfect example of this was organizing a Town Hall Series/Debate for Local Government candidates of all parties in the LGAs in Ogun in October-November 2024 where candidates were put on the spot to air their mandate before ballot, a platform meant to quiz and allow the candidates reach a wider populace they intend to lead in the coming months.

The station also did a full coverage of the Ogun State November 16, 2024, Local Government Elections where reporters were scattered across the state giving live situation reports on the happenings.

Accurate reportage and discussion programmes geared towards social changes and growth have been the core for the station.

Little wonders during its 3rd Ramadan Lecture on March 18,2025, A former Minister of Communication, Dr. Adebayo Shittu lauded the Chairman, Asiwaju Kalejaye,, for selflessly establishing the radio station in the outskirts of the ancient Ijebu town, Ilese.

Meanwhile, defending his actions; one he had nursed for over 16 years, the legal luminary in an exclusive interview to celebrate the Station’s 3rd Anniversary on Friday 4TH April 2025, attributed his desires to see growth happen in the society as catalyst for the establishment of Eagle FM. He added that it was about purpose.

“Choosing Ilese was deliberate. It was established for the people. People who want development in their communities will strive to see changes by putting in the works. My love for the community sparked this project. I was called a madman for choosing Ilese over buzzing cities like Lagos, Ibadan.”

“We used to have a clergyman in Ilese, Rt. Rev Joshua Sunday Oyinlola, who is now a bishop. Before my Undergraduate days, I was privileged to be amongst the congregants he delivered a sermon to, the sermon centered on One’s Background as One’s Treasure. His analysis and teachings gave me the stepping stones for what is today. He posited that one’s contribution in their native place will always resound years to come. No amount of greatness will shine as much as giving back to your root.” He added.

“At Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese Ijebu, Ogun State, we NEVER WORRY about who will be OFFENDED if we REPORT or SPEAK the TRUTH, we worry about who will be MISLED, DECEIVED or completely DESTROYED, if we don’t. So, for the latter, we choose to speak and report the truth ALWAYS”.

The Chairman further quoted the guiding principles of the station and the path which it has chosen to trail.

“We have had numerous situations where Eagle FM reporters have been threatened to disembark from some stories to please some power that be, but we will never compromise factuality, objectivity for merits or favors when the lives of the public are attached to it.”

Asiwaju Kalejaye further added that getting the license for the station was characterized with hurdles and several oppositions from different quarters particularly people accusing him of stylishly laying the groundwork for a political career. However, today the brand is three and free from political influences.

This was also made a reality through the sacrifices of stakeholders; Rev Dr. Femi Bosun Idowu, Oladotun Odunnuga, Mrs. Florence Ajoke Adetunmbi Adebanjo, Lady Mrs. Funmi Kalejaye.

Part of the station’s aim was to not only have listeners but create a family, which also led to an outdoor broadcast program on the 3RD April 2025, to converse and interact with active listeners of the station in Akodo Market, Ibeju-Lekki.

The reception further stamped the progress of the station in the public domain.Appreciating his Staff members he said, “Unlike many stations, Eagle FM does not rely on conventional staff structures. “I don’t have staff,”. “I have family members working with me.” The station is more than a business—it’s a family, a mission, and a movement.” The chairman declared with pride, while acknowledging the effort of Head of Station, Olakunle Balogun and Head of Operations, Olufela Kalejaye-led team of media maestros.

In just two years as a broadcasting house, Eagle 102.5 FM soared at the 2024 Primus Awards, clinching five coveted honors and solidifying its position as a leader in the broadcast industry.

As Eagle celebrates this milestone, it extends its gratitude to listeners, stakeholders, and everyone who has been part of this journey.

The best is yet to come, and with each passing year, Eagle FM will continue to rise, just like the mighty eagle it was destined to be. AS ALWAYS, it is “UP THERE WITH YOU”.
