The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Makurdi Zonal Command has taken into custody Fanen Ochough, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for the Gwer West Local Government Chairmanship.
He is accused of impersonating Dr. Emmanuel Chenge, the Principal Private Secretary to Benue State Governor, Hon. Hyacinth Alia, and defrauding several individuals of more than N14 million.
According to an official statement from the EFCC, Ochough allegedly deceived his victims, including former Deputy Governor Dr. Stephen Lawani, by offering fake contract and job opportunities.
He reportedly used the identity and office of the Governor’s aide to make his fraudulent activities appear legitimate.
The suspect was arrested in Makurdi on Friday, November 7, 2025, after a formal petition was filed with the Commission’s zonal office.
The EFCC has once again cautioned Nigerians to always confirm the authenticity of any job offers or government contract claims before engaging, stressing that fraudsters often exploit the names of public officials to swindle unsuspecting citizens.
