Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has alleged that he was offered a N5 billion bribe to support Fubara’s impeachment when he was the leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Speaking on Channels Television on Sunday, Ehie stated that he would soon reveal the identity of the person who made the offer. He also accused suspended Speaker Martins Amaewhule of orchestrating the bombing of the Rivers State Assembly complex in 2023.
According to Ehie, the attack happened at night, and only the speaker had access to the Assembly after 6:00 pm. He asserted that Amaewhule and his colleagues should be investigated for the incident. Dismissing claims that Governor Fubara was responsible, Ehie insisted that Fubara is a peaceful leader.
“In October, I was approached with a N5 billion bribe to support the impeachment of the governor, but I refused,” Ehie said.
He also addressed accusations from former Head of Service, George Nwaeke, who linked him to the Assembly bombing. Ehie claimed Nwaeke was financially pressured to make false allegations, describing his statements as scripted attempts to implicate him and the governor in the state’s political crisis.
Ehie disclosed that he has instructed his lawyer to sue Nwaeke, stating, “I have no hand in the burning down of the Rivers State House of Assembly.”
He further revealed that Nwaeke resigned on March 24, 2025, but by March 25, he was already appealing for financial assistance from the governor, despite previously declaring he could not work under Fubara’s administration.
