Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement with Ange Postecoglou to become the club’s new head coach, following the departure of Nuno Espírito Santo.
According to Sky Sports on Tuesday, the 60-year-old Australian manager has agreed to terms and is expected to be unveiled ahead of Forest’s upcoming Premier League clash with Arsenal. The move marks Postecoglou’s swift return to English football, just months after leaving Tottenham Hotspur.
Postecoglou, who became Spurs boss in 2023, endured a turbulent spell in north London. He was dismissed at the end of last season after a disappointing league campaign that saw Tottenham finish 17th. However, he restored pride to the club by leading them to a historic Europa League triumph — their first major silverware in years.
At Forest, Postecoglou will become the eighth permanent manager since Evangelos Marinakis took ownership in 2017, underscoring the club’s reputation for managerial turnover.
The Australian replaces Nuno Espírito Santo, whose tenure ended after a 3-0 defeat to West Ham United before the September international break. Nuno, 51, had been in charge for 21 months, taking over in December 2023 after Steve Cooper’s dismissal. He successfully kept Forest in the top flight and guided them to an impressive seventh-place finish last season—their highest league position since 1994-95—which secured European qualification for the first time in three decades.
Despite that achievement, Forest have started the current season inconsistently, sitting 10th in the Premier League table after three games. The club’s hierarchy acted quickly to install Postecoglou, hoping his attacking philosophy and track record of rebuilding squads can take Forest to the next level.
Postecoglou’s immediate task will be preparing Forest for the challenge of facing Arsenal, one of the league’s title contenders, as he begins his bid to stabilise and elevate the club in both domestic and European competitions.
