EX-PDP NATIONAL SECRETARY OKOYE RESIGNS, SAYS PARTY HAS LOST ITS WAY

Former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Udeh Okoye, has resigned from the party, saying it has “lost its moral compass and ideological direction.”

In a resignation letter dated October 13, 2025, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of the PDP in Agbogugu Ward, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Okoye said his decision came after “deep reflection and careful consideration.”

“After deep reflection and careful consideration, I wish to formally tender my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party. This decision did not come lightly,” he wrote.

Okoye, who previously served as National Youth Leader and later as National Secretary of the party, expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunities he had to serve in various capacities, including as a member of the Enugu State House of Assembly.

“For these privileges of service and trust, I remain profoundly grateful to the party, its leaders, and members at all levels,” he added.

In his letter, Okoye lamented that the PDP had deviated from the vision of its founding fathers, built on unity, justice, and equity.

“Over time, I have watched with increasing concern as the ideals and vision of the founding fathers of the PDP, built on the principles of unity, justice, and equity, have been eroded,” he said.

According to him, the PDP, once regarded as a “beacon of hope for democratic governance,” has “regrettably lost its moral compass and ideological direction.”

“After much contemplation, I have come to the solemn conclusion that I can no longer, in good conscience, remain within a system that has strayed so far from its original purpose,” he stated.

Okoye said he was embarking on what he described as a progressive journey aimed at restoring the values of democracy, accountability, and service to the people, which he claimed the PDP had abandoned.

Despite his criticism, he ended his letter on a conciliatory note, thanking party members and executives for their cooperation and friendship over the years.

“I thank you, the ward executives, and all party members at all levels for your support, friendship, and shared moments of service,” he concluded.

His resignation comes amid a wave of defections and internal crises within the PDP, as several members have left for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other parties, citing leadership disputes and ideological drift.

As of press time, Okoye had not officially declared allegiance to any political party.
