FG Declares May 1 Public Holiday to Mark 2025 Workers’ Day

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.The Federal Government has declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Workers’ Day celebration. 

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who acknowledged the critical role Nigerian workers play in the nation’s development. He praised their diligence and sacrifice, noting that their contributions are central to Nigeria’s internal progress and global standing.

“There is dignity in labour; the dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building,” the minister said in a statement.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the need for peace as a foundation for industrialisation and economic growth. He also urged workers to embrace innovation and productivity in their various sectors, stressing that such qualities are essential to effective governance and national advancement.

While assuring citizens of the government’s dedication to security, he reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, encouraging Nigerians to remain hopeful as reforms continue to unfold.

“The administration is fully committed to the security of life and property of every citizen and foreigner in the country,” he stated.

The minister concluded by wishing all Nigerian workers a happy celebration and called on them to strive for excellence in their respective fields, which he described as key to unlocking the full benefits of the nation’s resources.

The declaration was officially signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on April 29, 2025.
