The Federal Government has directed 3,598 civil servants who missed the 2021 verification exercise to undergo re-verification or risk dismissal for allegedly holding fake appointment letters.
The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) said the exercise will run from Monday, August 18, to Thursday, August 28, 2025, across various ministries and government agencies, including Agriculture, Defence, Education, Justice, Works, Information, Science and Technology, Aviation, Finance, Interior, and the State House.
A circular dated August 4, obtained on Monday, instructed affected officers to confirm their names on the FCSC website, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation’s portal, or on ministry notice boards.
Those summoned must present originals and photocopies of appointment and promotion letters, the gazette of appointment and confirmation, the staff change letter, and the July 2025 IPPIS payslip. The commission warned that no further extensions will be granted, stressing that failure to attend will be taken as proof of fraudulent employment.
The highest number of affected workers are in the Ministries of Information (592), Education (506), and Labour (440), followed by Works (134), Industry and Trade (196), Health (158), Environment (237), Interior (24), Defence (28), and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (36).
