The Federal Government has launched a digital portal to allow Nigerians report fraudulent practices in housing estates, submit evidence, and monitor the progress of their complaints.
The initiative, unveiled by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (FMHUD) on Tuesday, is aimed at curbing sharp practices in the real estate sector and protecting citizens from fraudulent developers.
The Housing Fraud Reporting Portal, accessible via https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng, provides a secure, user-friendly platform where complaints will be reviewed in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, professional bodies, and the judiciary.
During the launch in Abuja, technical demonstrations were conducted by Messrs Freestone Investments Limited and Messrs Prunedge Development Technologies Limited.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, said the measure aligns with the 2012 National Housing Policy, which called for stronger regulation of the sector, certification of estate developers, and protection of citizens. He added that offenders will face the full weight of the law.
In addition to the fraud portal, the Ministry also launched the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System (CPCPMS), a platform for real-time monitoring of housing projects, contractor performance, and centralised project documentation.
Deputy Director and Head of ICT at the Ministry, Dr Marcus Amiolemen, said both platforms underscore government’s commitment to transparency and service delivery. He noted that the fraud portal was developed in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure proper tracking and follow-up of reported cases.
