The historic transition of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, into a Federal Government-owned institution marks a monumental milestone in the university’s journey. This momentous development, approved by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, effective from Friday, 7th March 2025, heralds a new phase of expansion, academic excellence, and infrastructural transformation for the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor of TASUED, Professor Oluwole Banjo, FWISON, FASN, FAIMP, DFISN, on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, and the entire university community, extends his heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for this remarkable decision. He describes the adoption as a significant leap forward in enhancing the university’s global recognition and reinforcing its mission as a premier institution dedicated to teacher education and innovative research.

“This transition is not only a recognition of TASUED’s pivotal role in teacher education but also a strategic move by the Federal Government to strengthen higher education in Nigeria. It aligns with the national objective of improving the quality of instruction at all levels and solidifying the country’s educational system,” Prof. Banjo stated.

He further acknowledged the visionary efforts of Ogun State Governor, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, CON, whose unwavering support and advocacy played a crucial role in facilitating the Federal Government’s takeover. Prof. Banjo emphasized that this development is a testament to the governor’s commitment to advancing education and fostering growth in Ogun State.

Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor paid tribute to the university’s founding fathers, including former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Chief Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo, GCFR, and former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel, FNSE, under whose leadership TASUED was established and gained recognition.

“We also extend our deepest appreciation to His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, the Awujale of Ijebuland, for his enduring contributions to education and national development. This achievement is a source of pride for Ijebuland and Ogun State at large,” Prof. Banjo added.

With this transition, TASUED now joins the prestigious league of Federal Universities in Nigeria, granting it access to increased funding, enhanced infrastructural development, and greater research opportunities. This transformation will bolster the university’s ability to maintain its status as a center of academic excellence, innovation, and teacher education.

The Vice-Chancellor reassures all stakeholders—including staff, students, alumni, and the broader community—that this new status will only reinforce academic activities without disruption. Further updates on the transition process will be communicated as details emerge.
