Nigeria’s Rivers United and Zambia’s Power Dynamos will join a star-studded Group A in the 2025/2026 CAF Champions League, following Monday’s official draw in Johannesburg.
The draw, held at the studios of CAF Broadcast Partner SuperSport, set up several exciting matchups, including a highly anticipated rematch between reigning champions Pyramids FC of Egypt and Moroccan giants RS Berkane.
The group stage promises one of the most competitive editions in recent history, featuring seven former African champions and last season’s titleholders. Group A, in particular, headlines the tournament with Pyramids FC and RS Berkane winners of last season’s CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup respectively renewing hostilities after their CAF Super Cup clash, which Pyramids narrowly won 1–0.
Rivers United and Power Dynamos round out the group, creating a fiercely contested pool full of quality, ambition, and continental pedigree.
Other groups also feature heavyweight matchups:
- Group B: Record 12-time winners Al Ahly (Egypt) face Tanzania’s Young Africans, Moroccan champions AS FAR, and two-time African champions JS Kabylie (Algeria).
- Group C: South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns meet Sudan’s Al Hilal, Algeria’s MC Alger, and DR Congo’s St Éloi Lupopo.
- Group D: Four-time winners Espérance de Tunis take on Tanzania’s Simba SC, Angola’s Petro de Luanda, and Mali’s Stade Malien.
The group stage will kick off over the weekend of November 21–23, with two matchdays played before the start of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025. The competition will pause for the continental showpiece and resume January 23–25, 2026, with the knockout phase scheduled to begin on March 13, 2026.
Prize money for the tournament will see the winners take home $4 million, while the runners-up will receive $2 million.
