I WASN’T THE LP CANDIDATE – MOGHALU REFUTES CLAIMS LINKING HIM TO THE ANAMBRA GOVERNORSHIP RACE

Written by on November 11, 2025

Former presidential candidate, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has refuted media reports falsely claiming he was the Labour Party’s candidate in the recently concluded Anambra State governorship election.

In a statement posted on X this morning, Moghalu expressed disappointment over what he described as “false and lazy reporting,” after several newspapers and online platforms identified him as the Labour Party flagbearer with some even using his photograph.

“These reports are false, unfortunate, and a clear case of lazy journalism, as they appear to have confused Chief George Moghalu, the actual Labour Party candidate in the election, with me,” Moghalu stated.

The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) clarified that he is not a member of any political party, did not contest in the November 8, 2025 Anambra governorship election, and has long withdrawn from partisan politics.

“I resigned from partisan politics in September 2022, ahead of the 2023 presidential election,” he noted, recalling that he had previously contested as the presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in 2019.

Moghalu also urged all media organizations that published the inaccurate reports to issue immediate corrections and retractions.
