The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebuland has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving its royal heritage and maintaining unity among its members, particularly within the Tunwase branch, amid ongoing discussions on lineage identity and structure.

At a press briefing held on Friday at the residence of Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba in Ijebu-Ode, the leadership of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House clarified that only genuine descendants of the Tunwase lineage are recognised as part of the family’s historical and traditional structure.

Otunba Ajidagba, the Olori-Ebi (head) of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, speaking alongside Prince Adeleke Adeyemi, the family’s secretary and general secretary of the four ruling houses of Ijebuland, said the clarification became necessary to preserve the family’s integrity and prevent distortions of history.

“Let me set the records straight,” Ajidagba said. “The Tunwase lineage has existed for well over 120 years, actively participating in all our family engagements as a recognised branch of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House. No outsider has ever been part of this lineage.”

Prince Adeyemi reiterated that membership in the Fusengbuwa Ruling House—and by extension the Tunwase branch—is strictly based on ancestral descent, not on association or recent claims.

He explained that the family has always maintained transparency in its structure and succession process, guided by the declaration under the Chiefs Law of 1957, which outlines the rotation of the Awujale stool among the four ruling houses—Gbelegbuwa, Anikinaiya, Fusengbuwa, and Fidipote—with Fusengbuwa next in line.

Ajidagba and Adeyemi jointly reaffirmed that the Fusengbuwa Ruling House remains united under its recognised branches — Jadiara, Bubiade, Tunwase, and Fusengbuwa — stressing that all authentic descendants are committed to peace, progress, and orderly participation in the succession process.

They urged the public to rely only on verified information from the family’s recognised leadership as preparations continue for the next phase of the Awujale succession exercise.
