IJEBU NORT-EAST FORUM – INEF
In a bid to foster inclusive development and hold public officeholders accountable, the Ijebu North-East Forum (INEF), a grassroots pressure group, hosted a stakeholders’ meeting yesterday in Ogbogbo, Ijebu North-East, Ogun State.
The meeting brought together traditional rulers, youth representatives, political figures, and civic influencers to discuss key development challenges in the area.
INEF has positioned itself as a key advocacy group championing good governance, equitable resource allocation, and grassroots empowerment in Ijebu North-East.
Over the years, the forum has consistently held meetings and created platforms for dialogue between community leaders and public officials, driving meaningful change in the local government and surrounding areas.
Among the dignitaries present were: the member representing Ijebu North-East at the Ogun State House of Assembly Honorable Barrister Seun Adesanya, INEF’s President, Mr. Bayo Ayanga; and Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Development, Architect Ranti Orejide, amidst several traditional rulers and other notable members of the forum were also in attendance.
Key Discussions
Speaking at the forum, Mr. Bayo Ayanga emphasized the challenges in lobbying for local amenities and infrastructure, stating that the process is not effectively executed. He also addressed the need for accurate and timely dissemination of information between elected leaders and the people, stressing that delays create gaps and lead to misinterpretations.
In an interview with Eagle 102.5 FM, Bayo stated: “Openness in governance is the key. You have to earn the trust of the people by communicating regularly, being present among them, and ensuring you have trusted allies who can relay information accurately.”
He further criticized leaders who disengage from their communities after elections, saying: “Our leaders must recognize that they are public servants, elected to serve the people. They cannot engage with the community only during elections and then withdraw once in office. This creates distrust. Leaders must remain accessible and transparent to bridge the trust deficit.”
Legislative Efforts & Community Response
Honourable representing Ijebu North-East at the House of Assembly, Honourable Barrister Seun Adesanya, outlined several legislative efforts currently underway and encouraged collaboration between indigenes and the state government.
He highlighted several completed and ongoing projects, including the installation of solar-powered streetlights, boreholes, and the renovation of public schools with new furniture.
Adesanya also revealed plans to introduce technology-focused programmes for youth development, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI) and ICT. He disclosed that he is working with both local and international experts to implement a digital curriculum in public schools and hinted at pushing a bill that would make AI education mandatory for schoolchildren.
Community participants, including youth leaders and baálés, commended INEF for its consistency and influence. A youth leader also praised Hon. Seun Adesanya for supporting infrastructure development, particularly the installation of solar-powered boreholes.
In response, Adesanya reaffirmed his commitment to development, pledging to continue his efforts regardless of party affiliations.
The Ijebu North-East Forum concluded the meeting with a renewed call for synergy among traditional, political, and civic stakeholders. The group pledged to persist in advocating for the rights and needs of the people while tracking government projects to ensure transparency and accountability.
