Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced the renaming of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, in honour of the late former governor, Dr Omololu Olunloyo.
The announcement was made on Thursday during an interdenominational commendation service held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan as part of the funeral rites for the former governor.
Speaking at the event, Governor Makinde said, “The institution will now be known as Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan,” noting that the gesture was in recognition of Olunloyo’s contributions to education and governance in the state.
The late Olunloyo, who passed away just weeks before his 90th birthday, was the pioneer rector of the institution and a respected mathematician, scholar, and administrator.
The renaming serves as a tribute to his legacy and lasting impact on Oyo State’s educational development.
Further details on the renaming and commemorative activities are expected to be released by the state government in the coming days.
