NASS Must Investigate Alleged Terror Funding- Ex DSS Director

Written by on February 17, 2025

A former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mike Ejiofor, has called on the National Assembly to conduct a thorough investigation into allegations that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is funding terrorist organizations like Al-Qaeda, ISIS, and Boko Haram, which have caused devastation in Nigeria’s northwest.

The allegations were made by U.S. Congressman Scott Perry, a Republican representing Pennsylvania, during a congressional hearing on government efficiency. Perry claimed that nearly $700 million in taxpayer funds were being funneled to extremist groups under the guise of foreign aid.

Speaking on Eagle 102.5 FM’s current affairs program Frontline, Ejiofor stressed that the claims should not be dismissed lightly. While acknowledging that the allegations remain unverified, he emphasized the need for a detailed review of NGO budgeting and financial management to ensure funds are used for developmental purposes.

Ejiofor further called for a collaborative investigation involving security agencies, the heads of National Intelligence Agencies, and the National Assembly’s security committee to verify the claims and take necessary action.
