The Nigerian Navy has successfully intercepted and seized 1,400 litres of illegally refined petroleum products in Agadagba, located in the Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The operation, carried out by the Quick Response Team at the Agadagba Naval Outpost under the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Igbokoda, resulted in the confiscation of the illicit cargo, which was being transported in a locally fabricated wooden boat.
The seized petroleum products, stored in 44 jerry cans, were intercepted based on credible intelligence received through maritime security channels.
Lieutenant Commander A.D. Morgan, the Base Operations Officer of FOB Igbokoda, confirmed that the interception was a direct result of the Navy’s ongoing vigilance and collaborative intelligence-gathering efforts.
In a statement, Navy Captain Aliyu Usman, the Commander of FOB Igbokoda, issued a stern warning to criminals involved in illegal activities within the state.
He called on those engaged in economic sabotage and other criminal operations to desist, emphasizing that the Nigerian Navy is unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding the maritime environment and eliminating illegal operations.
“The Nigerian Navy will not tolerate any form of criminal activity and will continue to protect the country’s critical national assets,” Usman stated.
The Commander further disclosed that the wooden boat and its contents would be handled in accordance with existing military regulations and directives from the Defence Headquarters.
In recognition of the role played by external security partners, the Navy also commended Tantita Security Services and Gallery Security Services for providing swift and reliable intelligence that contributed to the success of the operation. {platformtimes}
