Honorable Mohammed Sani Gambo
Mohammed Gambo on Tuesday formally assumed office as the Kogi State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party following a ruling by the Federal High Court in Lokoja that affirmed his leadership after months of internal dispute.
The court, in a judgement delivered on November 10, 2025, in suit number FRC/LKJ/CS/39/2024, declared Gambo the duly elected chairman after a contested congress and a series of legal challenges. His assumption of office came shortly after the party received the Certified True Copy of the judgement on Monday.
Gambo arrived at the PDP state secretariat in Lokoja to a large crowd of supporters, security personnel and party chieftains who welcomed him amid cheers and celebration.
In his address, the new chairman described the legal victory as a milestone for the party in Kogi and called for unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“This is a collective triumph for Kogi PDP. I thank the elders of the party, our dear Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central), and former House of Representatives member Hon. Tajudeen Yusuf for standing by the party during the legal fireworks, and the judiciary for standing as the last hope of the common man,” he said.
Gambo pledged to rebuild the PDP’s structures in the state, recover lost ground and bring back former members who defected to other political parties. According to him, the leadership already has a strategic plan to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence.
He said the blueprint would focus on inclusiveness, reconciliation and what he described as “an open-door policy” to reposition the PDP as a winning force.
“I urge all aggrieved members to forget past grievances and join the rebuilding effort. Kogi is a PDP state, and we are ready to prove that going into 2027,” he added.
Reports show that Gambo finished second in the August 31, 2024 PDP congress but challenged the outcome, arguing that the initial winner, Enemona Anyebe, had been barred by an earlier court order from participating in the election.
The Federal High Court, in its ruling, ordered the immediate swearing-in of Gambo and directed party organs to recognise his majority votes after zoning arrangements were validated.
Gambo vowed to work toward returning the PDP to power in Lokoja and contribute to the party’s national plans.
He said the ultimate target is to “retake Lugard House” and ensure that Kogi plays a decisive role in the PDP’s quest for the presidency in 2027
