NIGERIA LOSES EMINENT ISLAMIC SCHOLAR, SHEIKH DAHIRU USMAN BAUCHI

A prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi, has died at the age of 98.

He passed away in the early hours today at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi.

The news of his death was confirmed by a family member, Malam Ahmed Mohammed, who said the scholar had received visitors last night before being taken to the hospital, where he later died.

According to him, the funeral prayer will take place on Friday, Nov. 28, in Bauchi, in accordance with Islamic rites.

Usman-Bauchi, a recipient of the national honour of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR), was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential Islamic scholars, known for his deep knowledge, spiritual leadership and unwavering dedication to Islamic teachings.

Born in 1927 in Gombe, he spent his life promoting Islamic education, peaceful coexistence and unity across the country.

He also served as the supreme leader of the Tijjaniya Sufi order in Nigeria.

His teachings, which emphasized moral discipline, tolerance and steadfastness in Islamic principles, earned him a large following and widespread respect both within and beyond Nigeria.

Throughout his life, Usman-Bauchi contributed immensely to community development, mentorship of younger scholars and the promotion of religious understanding.

He is survived by 61 children, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. (NAN)
