Written by on July 26, 2023

Nigeria and South Africa have set in motion efforts to curb the trafficking of illicit drugs between the two countries. The countries are to deepen ties to ensure syndicates operating in Nigeria and South Africa are apprehended and brought to book.

A statement by the spokesperson for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, yesterday, said the nation’s anti-narcotic agency was in talks with its counterpart in South Africa in the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation, popularly known as HAWKS, to bring this to fruition.

It quoted the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa  represented by the agency’s Secretary,  Shadrach Haruna, as saying the meeting would rekindle efforts to tackle the global drug problem.

He said the two agencies would come up with a Memorandum of Understanding after the meeting.
