President Bola Tinubu is expected to meet with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, soon to discuss the recent claims about the mass killing of Christians in Nigeria.

The Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, announced the upcoming meeting in a statement on his social media platform, X, saying it would happen “in the coming days.”

Bwala highlighted that both leaders share a strong commitment to fighting insurgency and terrorism. He noted that President Trump has provided important support to Nigeria, authorizing arms sales that President Tinubu has used effectively to achieve major success in the fight against terrorism.

“President Trump has assisted Nigeria a lot by authorising the sale of arms to Nigeria, and President Tinubu has adequately utilised the opportunity in the fight against terrorism, for which we have massive results to show.”

According to Bwala, the meeting will focus on settling different views on the issue specifically, whether terrorist groups in Nigeria target only Christians or people of all faiths. The discussion could take place at the State House in Abuja or the White House in Washington.

Bwala emphasized the common ground between the two leaders:

“Both President Bola Tinubu and President Donald Trump have shared interests in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity.”

He added that any differences in how the violence is viewed will be addressed directly:

“As for the differences as to whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or in fact all faiths and no faiths, the differences, if they exist, would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet in the coming days, either in the State House or White House.”

This scheduled meeting follows recent strong statements from President Trump, who had threatened possible military action in Nigeria in response to the reported anti-Christian violence. He stated that he had instructed the Department of War to “prepare for possible action.”

In a social media post, Trump previously threatened to cut off all aid to Nigeria “if the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians.” He even suggested a military response:

“The US may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”

He concluded with a direct warning:

“I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”

This all started after Trump announced that Nigeria would be added to the Department of State’s list of “Countries of Particular Concern,” which is used globally to monitor religious persecution.
