Former presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu.
Former presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu has debunked rumours of a fallout between former President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu, stating that both leaders remain firmly aligned within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV’s 30 Minutes yesterday, Shehu emphasised that there has been no formal disagreement between the two administrations, despite public speculation and media chatter.
“People are entitled to their opinions. But officially, there is no distrust or fallout between the Buhari and Tinubu administrations,” Shehu said.
Shehu noted that Buhari remains committed to the party that brought him to power after three unsuccessful attempts at the presidency.
“For Muhammadu Buhari, he’s still very much an APC member. He has always said, ‘I will never be ungrateful. I will never betray the party that gave me two terms in office.’” Shehu added.
Responding to suggestions that the former president’s loyalists are uneasy with developments under Tinubu’s leadership, Shehu downplayed any such concerns.
“We read these statements when people say such things. Are we disturbed? I don’t think that’s the right word,” he said.
He went on to recall the efforts it took to form the APC in 2014, following multiple failed attempts to merge opposition forces.
“It took hard work, energy, and sacrifice to bring the APC together. Those who saw how much effort it took to build that coalition won’t be the ones to tear it down,” Shehu concluded.
His comments appear aimed at calming internal party tensions amid growing political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections.
