Nkechi Nweje

The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the passing of veteran Nollywood actress Nkechi Nweje. She died after a brief illness, as confirmed on Saturday by movie producer Stanley Ajemba, popularly known as Stanley Ontop.

Ajemba, in an emotional tribute shared on Instagram, described Nweje as a vibrant actress and a dear friend. He recalled their last conversation, where she advised him to stay out of a controversial issue.

“Nollywood is in tears as we lost one of our vibrant actresses, Nkechi Nweje. It still feels like a dream to me,” Ajemba wrote.

Other colleagues, including veteran actress Rita Edochie, also expressed their grief. Edochie shared a solemn candlelight image on Instagram, stating, “This world is really not our home.” Actor Asa Ikuku also paid tribute, describing Nweje as a great actress whose contributions will be deeply missed.

Known for her powerful performances in motherly roles, Nweje built a lasting legacy in Nollywood. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Azuibuike Nweje, and six children.

Her passing marks a significant loss to the industry, as fans and colleagues remember her talent, warmth, and dedication to her craft.
