The management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, Ogun State, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Inspector-General of Police to tender a public apology over the recent invasion of its premises.

Addressing journalists in Abeokuta on Wednesday, the Managing Director of OOPL, Vitalis Ortese, described the August 9–10 operation as “unlawful” and “a direct assault” on the institution and its chief promoter, former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The library is also demanding N3.5 billion in restitution—N1 billion for damages to victims of the raid and confiscated property, and N2.5 billion for the alleged harm to its reputation and business interests.

Operatives of the EFCC had, in the early hours of Sunday, stormed the OOPL premises, arresting 93 suspected internet fraudsters and seizing 18 vehicles alongside mobile devices.

Ortese accused the EFCC and the police of acting with malice, saying their conduct was “aggravated, unconstitutional, oppressive, and arbitrary.” He stressed that the management was prepared to explore all legal channels to prevent a recurrence.

The OOPL also called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident, with the findings made public, particularly concerning the alleged brutalisation of more than 100 patrons during the raid. It noted that Obasanjo, his family, and close associates reside within the library complex, making the operation especially damaging.

The management insisted that both the EFCC chairman and the Inspector-General of Police issue separate apologies, published widely across print, broadcast, and online platforms. It warned that failure to meet its demands within seven days would lead to legal action, with potentially expanded claims.
