The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has suspended former governor, Senator Gbenga Daniel, and another party member, Hon. Kunle Folarin, over alleged anti-party activities.
The suspension, according to the party, followed recommendations from disciplinary committees set up in their respective wards in Sagamu Local Government Area.
APC spokesman Nuberu Olufemi confirmed the development, while Ogun APC Chairman, Yemi Sanusi, said the suspensions were ratified by the State Working Committee (SWC) during its meeting on August 19, which had sixteen members present.
“The meeting considered the reports of the disciplinary committees investigating allegations of misconduct and anti-party activities against Senator Gbenga Daniel of Ward 4 and Hon. Kunle Folarin of Ward 6,” Sanusi stated.
According to him, both committees invited the affected members to defend themselves in writing or in person but they failed to respond, submit defenses, or attend the hearings.
“In view of their deliberate and unexplained absences, the committees deliberated as scheduled, reviewed available evidence, and considered witness testimonies,” Sanusi said.
He further alleged that the suspended members attempted to interfere with the disciplinary process by harassing party members and pressuring them to withdraw petitions.
The SWC said the indefinite suspension was necessary to protect “the integrity of the disciplinary process” and would remain in force pending the outcome of further investigations.
“The ratification of these suspensions demonstrates the party’s commitment to discipline and upholding its constitution,” the APC statement added.
