Justice O.S. Oloyede of the Ogun State High Court, Sagamu, has extended by three months an interim injunction restraining Governor Dapo Abiodun, his agents, and two industrial firms from further trespassing on 15,309 acres of land belonging to the Ilara Remo community in Remo North LGA.
At the resumed hearing on Monday, Justice Oloyede ruled that the earlier injunction, first granted on September 1, would remain in place to give the defendants’ counsels time to regularise their court filings. The case, marked HCS/377/2025, has now been adjourned to January 13, 2026, for further hearing.
The claimants, led by Dr Olumide Ayeni, SAN, include community chiefs such as the Lisa of Ilara Remo, Chief Samuel Olukoya Sodunola, and 22 others. They are seeking to stop the defendants—Governor Abiodun, the state Attorney-General, Industrial Platform Remo Limited, and Arise Integrated Industrial Platform—from further dealings on the disputed land, measuring about 6,227 hectares, as described in Survey Plan No. IL/02/PROV/1998.
Ayeni told the court that his clients are the legal owners of the land but alleged that the 4th and 5th defendants had been “surreptitiously erecting structures and alienating parts of the land to third parties” with government support. He argued that unless restrained, the defendants’ actions could render any eventual judgement meaningless.
“The 4th and 5th defendants have continued to use the support of the 1st and 2nd defendants to enter the applicants’ lands, start construction works, and alienate the land up to the present time and will continue unless restrained. Damages would not be adequate to compensate the applicants if judgement is ultimately in their favour,” Ayeni submitted.
The court had originally issued the injunction in August after an ex parte application filed by the Ilara Remo community leaders, stressing the urgency of preserving the land pending determination of the substantive suit.
