The Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Abayomi Akinruntan, and the Majority Leader, Hon. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, resigned from their leadership positions during plenary today.
Both lawmakers, representing Ilaje Constituency I and Owo Constituency I, respectively, under the All Progressives Congress (APC), announced their resignations on the floor of the Assembly.
Presiding over the session, Speaker Olamide Oladiji formally acknowledged the resignations, which insiders say are part of ongoing political power-sharing adjustments within the state’s ruling structure.
Akinruntan, in his brief remarks, attributed his decision to the prevailing political arrangement aimed at ensuring balanced representation in key positions across the state.
Following the resignations, Hon. Ololade Gbegudu, representing Okitipupa Constituency II, emerged as the new Deputy Speaker, while Hon. Olatunji Oshati, representing Ose Constituency, was selected as the Majority Leader.
The changes come amid intensified political consultations ahead of the 2025 governorship election in the state.
