Air Peace has strongly condemned what it described as the unruly and violent conduct of a prominent Nigerian politician, widely believed to be Senator Adams Oshiomhole, following a disruption at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos on Wednesday morning.
According to an official statement issued by the airline’s management, the incident occurred at Terminal 1 (Zulu Hall) around 6:10 AM, when the senator reportedly arrived late for Air Peace Flight P47120 bound for Abuja, scheduled to depart at 6:30 AM.
The airline emphasised that its standard on-time departure policy required all boarding processes to close well ahead of takeoff. By the time Oshiomhole arrived, the boarding gate had been closed, and the flight departed as scheduled.
Upon being informed that he had missed the flight, the senator allegedly became aggressive, physically assaulted airline staff, and forcefully barricaded the terminal’s main entrance. Air Peace further stated that the politician went as far as sealing off the entry gate and manning the access point himself, thereby obstructing other passengers from entering the terminal.
“This unacceptable behaviour caused significant disruption to ongoing operations and affected numerous travellers scheduled for various flights,” Air Peace said in its statement.
To mitigate the situation and minimise inconvenience to other passengers, Air Peace said it swiftly activated a contingency plan, rerouting affected travellers through an alternate terminal.
“We are deeply saddened that such a high-profile figure displayed conduct so unbecoming and disruptive to fellow passengers and our personnel,” the airline said. “Air Peace maintains a zero-tolerance stance on violence or any form of aggression against our staff and passengers.”
The airline stressed that all travellers must remain civil and cooperative, reminding the public that aviation operations are governed by strict timelines and safety protocols. It reaffirmed its commitment to delivering safe, timely, and respectful service to the Nigerian public.
“Air Peace continues to stand for discipline, integrity, and respect for due process. No individual, no matter how influential, is above these values,” the statement concluded.
As of press time, there has been no official statement from Senator Oshiomhole’s media team regarding the incident. However, the event has drawn widespread criticism from members of the public and industry observers, who have called for accountability and better enforcement of conduct regulations within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
