The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has concluded its meeting with the announcement of November 15–16, 2025, as the dates for its elective national convention. The convention will be held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
“NEC approved the year 2025 Elective National Convention Schedule of Activities and Timetable,” a communique issued at the end of Thursday’s meeting in Abuja stated. “Under the approved Timetable, the Elective National Convention to elect the next set of National Officers of our Party will hold on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.”
NEC directed the party’s National Chairman, Iliya Damagum, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to formally notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the time, venue, and agenda of the convention in line with Section 82 (1) of the Electoral Act, 2022.
It also approved the composition of both the National Convention Committee and the National Convention Zoning Committee to ensure a smooth, credible convention.
Reaffirming the party’s strength and unity, the PDP NEC declared that the party remains “a strong, united, cohesive, stable and focused political Party repositioned to effectively play its role as the leading opposition Party in galvanizing all efforts towards rescuing our dear nation from the catastrophic misrule of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
In a major resolution, NEC directed the National Working Committee to initiate legal proceedings to reclaim seats held by lawmakers who defected from the PDP to other parties.
“By virtue of the self-executory provision of Sections 68 (1)(g) and 109 (1)(g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), such defectors have irredeemably lost their seats, there being no division or merger with regard to the PDP,” the communique read.
NEC also expressed concern over reports of PDP members participating in activities of other political parties, urging them to demonstrate loyalty and commitment. It added, “NEC reassures such members of the successes recorded so far towards addressing their concerns on issues relating to our Party.”
As the party gears up for 2027, the PDP restated its commitment to democratic ideals and readiness to lead efforts to “rescue our nation from the stranglehold of the rudderless and insensitive APC administration.”
The NEC adjourned and scheduled its next (102nd) meeting for Monday, August 25, 2025.
