The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed the screening of aspirants ahead of its 2025 Elective National Convention, earlier scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, attributed the postponement to “unforeseen circumstances.”

Fintiri assured party members and aspirants that a new date for the exercise would be announced soon, adding that the committee regrets any inconvenience the decision may have caused.

“A new date will be communicated once fixed. The NCOC regrets any inconvenience caused by the postponement,” the statement read.
“All aspirants and members of our party should note the foregoing and be guided accordingly.”

He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to ensuring a transparent, credible, and seamless convention process.

The PDP’s 2025 Elective National Convention is scheduled to take place on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Last week, on October 25, the party announced a 13-member National Convention Screening Committee chaired by Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, a former Ondo State governorship candidate. The panel was mandated to vet aspirants seeking various national offices ahead of the convention.

The postponement comes shortly after former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman.

The development follows reports of internal divisions within the party after some northern PDP leaders endorsed former Minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as their consensus candidate for the chairmanship. The move was reportedly opposed by factions loyal to Lamido and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who faulted the endorsement process, citing inadequate consultation.

The disagreement underscores growing tensions within the opposition party, which has in recent months witnessed notable resignations and leadership tussles ahead of its national convention.
