The Oyo State Police Command has dismantled a human trafficking network operating in Ibadan, the state capital, rescuing 84 victims during a major operation.
According to authorities, 83 adults and one child were freed from a house in the Orogun area, where they had allegedly been held for an undisclosed period. Preliminary investigations reveal that the victims, believed to be nationals of the Democratic Republic of Congo, were brought to Nigeria under the false promise of employment opportunities.
Further reports suggest that the traffickers extorted large sums of money, reportedly in dollars, from the victims’ parents and relatives, adding a financial dimension to the exploitation.
The rescued individuals are currently being housed at the Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the trafficking operation.
